As anyone who has known for more than a day knows, I love to play "Would You Rather...??" Especially when I'm bored. Basically this game consists of someone (usually me) asking the question "Would you rather..." followed by some sort of crazy proposition. The most notorious game we ever played centered around the question: "Would you rather time travel back in time to Medieval England (with no other exposition or caveats), OR wander into one of many underground Viking colonies hidden under Canada, and the be married/claimed under "Hunter's Right" by a prominent Viking Lord (with the additional information that these Vikings got here before the Mayflower did and have been prospering in the Artic Circle since)??
I think from the above description it's easy to see which side I'm on (Vikings), and I'll tell you why. In the Medieval case you're just plopped down in the middle of some English field. You're still dressed in modern clothes, you don't speak the language, and in the best scenario you'd be married to a kind villager. In the worst case (or more realistic) scenario, you'd be burned or drowned as a witch.
In the Viking scenario, at least you both speak the same language (they've been bridesnatching for years), the know full well about the outside/modern world, you will only be bound to one man as his wife, so he;ll at least protect and look after you, and they have plumbing and some electricity (in it's early stages, but still!). There are cons to this scenario as well, but to me it's clear which scenario I'd rather be in!!
This leads to another "Would You Rather...??" that I've actually asked people before: would you rather be with a vampire or a werewolf?? More precisely, "Would you rather be with a lumberjack vampire or a bootlegger werewolf?"
I think it's apparent from the banner that I'd choose werewolf anyday!! And here's why:
Vampire
1.The animated dead, so soulless
2.Cold
3.Can’t handle sunlight, so no going out during the day; plus he's gotta be pasty white and no tan
4.Play mindgames/use magic to lure victims
5.Live on blood, which I could probably deal with if he just drank my blood, but then I’d be dead. So…
6.He’ll life forever, even after I’m gone
7.Could work his way through who knows how many human brides before he gets staked
8. Plus if he's a lumberjack then I have to deal with chainsaw noise at night, gag me with a spoon
Werewolf
1.Very much alive, and have souls thank you!
2.Warm and snuggly
3.Can’t handle a full moon, so can’t go out 1 or 2 nights a month…but when I hit that time of the month I don’t feel like going out for a whole week, so who am I to judge?
4.May have magic, but it’s not used for luring innocents into a deathtrap
5.Eat raw meat when he’s wolfy, but otherwise he’ll eat whatever I make! Oh and I can cook with garlic ::ahem::
6. Some mythology says he’s live a long time, like 200-300 years; but that’s not as forever
7.Mate for life, so if he’s mine, he’s mine. No possibility of cheating either!
8.If he's a bootlegger then at least I'll get free booze!! And satisfy that whole badboy fantasy...

As much as I try to avoid being a part of the Team Edward v. Team Jacob phenomenon, I think there is a clear choice and that is werewolf. First of all, who would want to snuggle up to something ice cold and hard as a rock (caveat: maybe I would choose vampire if it was last summer when my A/C went out and I was walking around in my 95 degree house wearing a wet swimsuit with ice packs taped to my stomach... but choosing someone as a central air conditioning system over actual compatibility is probably backwards...just probably, not definitely...it WAS really hot that summer).
ReplyDeleteThe reason I would definitely go with werewolf is because, despite the temper, they're passionate and very loyal. Plus, I was always a sucker for those best friend types and I'm not down with being "glamored" (or, as a guy hitting on me at a bar once said "I'm TWILIGHTING you" .... no thanks, I'll keep control of my free will for the time being). Also, it's true...when you go vampire, you have a vampire 24/7 and you can kiss all daytime BBQs and pool parties goodbye. At least with the werewolf they can eventually decide to stop transitioning and die with you... whereas when you're with a vampire you invariably end up with their demon spawn trying to claw outside of you like a scene from Alien, thus causing you to choose to be a vampire as well and pretend to like camping WAY more than you actually do and live in a town that is perpetually cloudy (overcast skies + eternal life = never ending seasonal depression that you can't even get a light box for).
Even in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Seth Green as a Werewolf was more endearing (albeit a ginger) than ironically named "Angel." (This reference is kicking it old school to the originally vampire vs werewolf schoolgirl crushes)
The choice is clear, people, if you have to hit the love sack with a mythological creature--steer clear of the vamps.
Ah Apryl, I can always count on you to kick in old school!! And I think you're analysis of this whole scenario is quite accurate and well thought out. You would make a debate team proud!! ;D
ReplyDeleteahahahhaahh, you've made me totally biased, who's gonna say a vampire after that!
